Hi. I'm Alisha!
Mother of 2 Gifted Kids, Former Gifted Education Teacher, and current student at Bridges Graduate School.
My journey into the world of giftedness began long before I realized it. I was homeschooling my two boys, responding to their needs, adjusting the level of challenge as they grew. I didn’t label what I was doing. I just met them where they were, offering slightly more when something came easily and backing off when it didn’t. Without knowing it, I was intuitively doing what worked for gifted learners.
Everything shifted when they entered public school in late elementary. Suddenly, it was clear that their needs weren’t being met, and I found myself longing to return to the classroom both to teach and to better understand what my boys were facing. So I earned a Master’s in Teaching, hoping to bridge the gap between home and school and to become a stronger advocate for them and others like them.
Then the pandemic hit, and like many families, we returned to homeschooling. By then, I knew my kids were gifted. I stepped into a new role. Not as their direct teacher, but as their coach and guide, supporting their learning as it outpaced what I could directly provide. That approach gave one son the confidence to transition back to public high school thriving, and helped us realize our twice-exceptional son needed something different and more flexible.
Today, I’m pursuing a doctorate in Cognitive Diversity in Education at Bridges Graduate School. My goal is to equip and empower parents of gifted and neurodiverse kids... to help you feel more confident in your parenting, more connected to your child, and more at home in a community that truly understands this journey.
I started Cultivating Gifted Kids because I know what it’s like to feel both in awe of your child and completely unsure of how to support them.
When we first realized our boys were gifted, it was overwhelming. The intensity, the questions, the uneven development didn’t match what most parenting books or schools prepared us for. And while there were moments of joy and wonder, there were also moments of doubt, isolation, and exhaustion.
As I learned more through formal study, lived experience, and lots of trial and error... I kept thinking, Why didn’t anyone tell me this sooner? I wanted to create a space where parents like me could find clarity, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. A place where you don’t have to explain why your child melts down after a birthday party or why they’re reading five grade levels ahead but still struggling to tie their shoes.
Cultivating Gifted Kids is my way of offering what I wish I’d had: thoughtful resources, honest conversations, and a supportive community grounded in respect for neurodiversity. My hope is that you’ll find both practical tools and deep reassurance here. I hope you will join me.
